Prague – The increase in the number of covid-19 cases in the Czech Republic accelerated again after a weekend slowdown on Monday. There were 195 of them on a total of 15,516 confirmed cases since the beginning of the epidemic in the republic. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health. On Monday, the number of deaths of people with covid-19 also increased by one to 373. The number of currently ill patients continues to rise, ie the number of cases of infection after deducting the recovered and deceased. There are 3828 current patients, which is the most since April 20.

Last week, the increase in new cases of coronavirus infection gradually accelerated significantly, from 168 on Monday to 279 on Friday, the largest daily increase since 28 June. Over the weekend, the increase in cases slowed down, which is a common phenomenon due to a decrease in the number of tests performed.

Over the weekend, the number of tests dropped from the previous about 6,000 per day to about 2,000 per day. However, the share of newly recorded cases of the disease in the number of tests grew steadily, from 2.9 percent on Monday to 6.74 percent on Sunday. The number of tests for Monday will not be published by the ministry until this afternoon.

The number of people currently suffering from covid-19 continues to rise sharply in recent days. It has risen by more than two-fifths to about 3,800 since last Monday alone. The highest number of patients has been since the beginning of the epidemic in mid-April, when it was around 4,600. In Prague alone, the current reproductive rate has reached 1.9, making it the highest risk in the Czech Republic.

The largest increase in new cases of covid-19 in the past week occurred in the Jihlava and Prachatice regions. In the last seven days, about 54 cases of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants have been recorded in the Jihlava region and 51 cases in the Prachatice region. In Jihlava, the disease appeared in the Alzheimer’s Center, where tests in recent days showed infection in 40 clients and 17 employees. In Prachatice, mostly foreign workers of one company are infected. Hygienists will test 270 workers there, the results will be known at the end of the week.
